communicationconfigurationinformationisenteredpertainingtotheserialportsettings
ontheProgrammingPC.Thefirsttwo(2)entries,CommPort,andDevice
refertohardware.
• CommPort:-referstotheserialcommunicationportbeingusedontheProgramming
PC.MostmodernPCsonlyhave1ormaybe2serialports.Iftheserialcablefromthe
ProgramingPCtothePLCispluggedintothefirstserialportthenthedefaultchoice
ofCOM1iscorrect.IftheserialcableispluggedintoaserialportotherthanCOM1
thenclickthedropdownarrownexttoCOM1andchoosethecorrectCOMport.
• Device:-referstothetypeandmodelofthePLCthattheotherendoftheserialcable
ispluggedinto.Thereisafairlyextensivelistofchoiceshere
.

ThisexampleisgoingtousethePLC-5processorsothecorrectchoiceisPLC-CH0.The
Auto-Configurebuttonwillnormallydeterminewhatthedeviceisattheotherendofthe
cable. However, if Auto-Configure does not sense the device properly you may have to
manuallychangethissetting.
ThebottomsectionoftheConfigureDF1CommunicationsDevicewindowpertainstothe
settingsoftheserialportonourProgrammingPC.Themostimportantthingaboutthese
serialportsettingsisthattheyhavetoexactlymatchwhattheserialportsettingsonthe
PLC.Ifthesettingsdonotmatchexactlyitwillbeimpossibletoestablishcommunications
betweentheProgrammingPCandthePLC.Furthermore,itisalmostagiventhatthe
defaultsettingsshownwillnotwork.
